's check your forecast. for that we turn to meteorologist jennifer hill who's in for rob this morning. good morning, jennifer. >> good morning. it's a little cool outside. we had that breeze really picking up yesterday but a big warmup is on the way. a bit of low clouds around this morning, maybe a little fog but we'll see that burning off. temperatures in the 50s as we look at 8:00 a.m. as we head toward noon we'll all be enjoying quite a bit of sunshine and warm us up to 70 in concord, 71 in livermore, 67 in san jose, 62 at noon. so is the first day of fall that comes this evening at 8:00, it's going to feel more like summer as we head toward the end of the week. 69 degrees at 4:00 in fremont, 73 in livermore and we're looking at 68 degrees. so with the seven-day forecast here, a little cool today. we're forecasting temperatures right in the mid-70s as we look at the east bay. by the time we hit the weekend, forecast highs making it back into the 90s for the first weekend of fall. it kind of seems counter intuitive, doesn't it, scott. >> it does. great way to start fall. >>> mike joining

are they asking us to write? >> reporter: jennifer thomas is an english teacher at high school who isn't looking forward to her five days off starting october 4th. but employees decided to accept 5 furlough days in order to avoid layoffs in a year when the district has lost $40 million in state funding. it amounts to almost a 3% pay cut but for thomas the reel loss is the crucial instruction time for students. in all, 32,000 students, 1800 teachers, as well as 1200 non- teaching workers will be gone next week. >> there is no good at all and in fact the damage to the students is probably incal que hasselbeck. we'll probably get a sense of that next summertime when we see the test results rolling in and thinking about the curriculum we didn't get to share with the kids at the end of the school year. >> reporter: students acknowledge having time off sounds good in some ways but not in the big picture of their lives. >> it's not easy because a lot of us have extracurricular activities that occur and where those are invaluable, you're no -- you can't recover certain things like that. >> we have homew
